March Art Journaling Page!

March came in like a lion here in Delaware!

How about where you live?

Today was much nicer, though there was quite a nip in the air. I got to head outside for a few minutes, and found a nice little bunch of daffodils along the ditch bank. So of course they needed to come inside… Daffodils are my absolute favorite “First Sign of Spring.” I’d love to have them blooming everywhere on our little homestead!

One even got its portrait drawn in my art journal…

I got a little vibrant with the color… Let’s call it “artistic license.”
I used watercolor pencils on this page… They are great to work with in art journals, since you can color your drawings “dry,” and add just a dab of water later to make a watercolor wash. You can also touch a wet brush to the pencil tip and use that concentrated paint to add details to your sketches.

Looking for “First Signs of Spring” is one of the journaling ideas for March!

  1. Oh my goodness! I found you on pinterest and am I ever so glad. Your blog is beautiful, what a blessing to see such gentle art. I was seeking journaling prompts for March as I have just now started a Nature Journal (but I’m not good at drawing lol, but I’m going to try anyway. I’m really glad this is current too, bc most things I find on Pinterest was done years ago. Keep going, your work is glorifying to God.

    1. Good to meet you, Rose! So glad you stopped by! One of my favorite quotes is “The beginning is the most important part of the work”… If I can just make a start, usually I’ll be surprised by the progress that happens! One of the great things about art journaling is you can really see improvements in your drawing as you keep going. And thank you for your encouragement!

  2. Your flowers look lovely. They make me long for spring. Here in London, Ontario, Canada, spring has been slow in coming. We are having pleasant weather this week but we are expecting more cold and snow. Weather seems so mixed up. I love your presentation of your journal prompts. Your site is lovely, I hope to visit often.

    1. Thanks you for your lovely comment, Catherine! We lived in upstate New York when we were first married, and I can remember how long it took for spring to come and melt all the snow! I think that was the first time in my life that I longed for spring… even though I love snow! Do come back and visit!

  3. Your daffodil is so beautiful and a true marker of Spring! Thank you for encouraging and inspiring others to keep nature and art journals. I’ve started up again this year, and it has brought a lot of joy as I look for sights and sounds that I want to remember each month. I’m looking forward to your April suggestions for journaling. Thank you for creating and sharing your art with others.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Ann, and so glad you’re enjoying the art journal pages! I’m working on April right now, and hope to have it up in the next few days! It’s hard to get back into the routine of art journaling, but so worth it!
